Overwhelm

I live in an incredibly messy home.
And it’s not like, messy in a cute way -she’s a…mess.
This is what happens when 2 individuals who like their work and hate domestic duties fall into.
There’s always better things to do that deal with the shit that keeps tripping us up or making us cringe.
The problem is - we are now at the state of overwhelm and frustration.
I look around at where I live and I want to cry because of all the “stuff” that is lingering around.
Loose papers, documents, books, fabric, craft supplies of hobbies since discarded, camera equipment, and dust…..oh so much dust.
We never have people over simply because our home is embarrassing.
The worst part is, NOT having people come over and NOT asking for help only makes it worse.
Because it continues to pile up
and this doesn’t make overwhelm any less overwhelming.
The other thing I do, is I convince myself that it is an overwhelming task before I even start.
I would rather do nothing, than pick one shirt off the floor because I’ve convinced myself if I am going to do it - I need to DO. IT.
Like scrub the whole house and start from scratch.
Which we did do once.
We hired my sister and her husband to come in and deep clean our house while we were away.
Jill thought we had gotten robbed.
But the reality was, it actually made my husband squidgy.
He won’t admit it,
but like me,
clutter brings a sense of comfort
and “you never know when you’ll need it” is a common phrase.
So, now we sit in our cluttered castle
trying to find literally anything else to do besides clean.
So, today I am going to just…
START.
Pick a room
Pick a location in the room
Pick a task within that location in the room
and just check it off the list.
I’m also going to reach out to someone to make this process a bit easier.
Ryan and I want to move in the next few years and either we can choose to get our shit together now or be stressed out trying to get our shit together later.
But the thing is,
We all have clutter and overwhelm.
For you,
it may not be stuff in your home.
In fact, your home might be organized and tidy, tidy, tidy
but what is overwhelming you?
What seems too big to tackle?
Why are you avoiding it?
And what is just 1 tiny step you can take towards decluttering?
