Embers can exist within, remain after, or sometimes precede a fire...

they radiate a substantial amount of heat long after the fire has been extinguished, and if not taken care of properly, can rekindle a fire that is thought to be completely extinguished.

You aren’t that different.
Whether you are working towards something, healing from something, or feeling burnt out,

the spark will always remain.

Misty Moss is a boudoir photographer, self portrait artist, and burlesque performer on Vancouver Island, Canada. Specializing in helping her clients and community see themselves as powerful works of art since 2016, she has honed in on helping others experience their own body celebration story after discovering the transformative (and frankly mildly addicting) powers of empowerment, embodiment, and self love that these art forms offer. As a photographer her work has been published internationally, but her greatest accolade is every client she gets to see fall a little deeper in love with themselves in front of the lens. Her motto is "my art heals my clients, and my clients heal me" - truly honouring the mutual energy exchange and transformative powers that boudoir photography holds.

Your Itinerary

Why the Emboldened Embers retreat?

If you are a creative soul and have been feeling lackluster about the work you’ve been outputting this retreat will be just the thing you need to rekindle the flame you have, not just for your art, but also for yourself. Standardly, when our creativity falls to the wayside and becomes stagnant, it’s because we are feeling it in other areas of our life - as they say “art is the mirror of our lives”. The 5 days you spend with us are going to be focused on fanning the flame of your creative spark from within - through various forms of self expression, we are going to explore blocks, hardships, areas of discomfort, and come together in a week of healing & sacred goodness on Bowen Island, BC, part of the Squamish Nation. With nature as our nurturer and various form of art as our expression we are going to help you leave feeling more embodied, emboldened, and more importantly, empowered to keep your fire going.

  • Day 1: May 24 - Arrival

We will expect everyone to arrive before 7pm PST so that we can all enjoy a beautiful dinner together and get started on our welcome shindig! In the late evening, we will connect around the fire to share our goals, desires, and hopes for the week.

  • Day 2: May 25 - Self Portraits

It should be no surprise that self portraits are going to be a major aspect of this week, seeing as both Teri & Misty are known for their self portraiture. We will be covering the technical and emotional aspects of doing self portraits and this will set us up for the week as we explore various other versions of self expression. To cap off the day, we will have a Liberation Fashion Show, where we will cheer everyone on as you strut your stuff in an outfit you feel is self expressive! (It can be as much or as little as you desire!)

  • Day 3: May 26 - Fear/Blocks/Limiting Beliefs

When it comes to leaning into our self expression it can trigger a lot of things to come flooding up - we want to provide you a safe and supportive space to explore the stories you tell yourself and give you the guidance to break down those blocks. We will be going through the importance of seeing and feeling the self and the part that body image plays. That evening, we are going to do a nice l’il therapeutic breathwork & grounding to work through the things that came up.

  • Day 4: May 27 - Writing

So many people stop writing because they had a teacher or someone correct their grammar or make fun of their spelling - well, on this day Teri will be taking you through prompts and exercises to help you find your inner metronome. We are going to be breaking all of the rules to give you the means to connect with your heart story and give you an incredible outlet that you can decide to hold private or share if you desire. That evening, we are going to get messy and have a fun art night!

  • Day 5: May 28 - Movement

So many of us are removed from movement and trusting our bodies due to diet culture and have our moves critiqued when we were younger, yet movement has been shown to have a massive impact on our stress levels, immune system, and brain function. As a burlesque artist, Misty has bumped, grinded, and oozed her way through inherited toxic body image beliefs. She wants to share the healing and transformative power of embodied sensual movement to help us connect to our glorious bodies in a gentle and supportive way. She is going to guide us through various movements and prompts, encouraging us to let go of the limiting beliefs that hold us back (and shake our glorious jiggly bits in the process!) Since this is our last night together, we wanted to arrange something fun, so we are going to have a little “talent show” where you can take something you’ve learned throughout the week and present it to the group! Remember, we are keeping the numbers for the retreat small AND we are incredibly supportive (no matter what your brain is telling you!)

  • Day 6: Home time

This is always the hardest part because we’ve cried and laughed and moved and shared and made new friends - but now it is time for you to go forth and burn brightly for the world to see.

The Retreat

We will be spending 5 days and 6 nights in nature at the Xenia Centre located on Bowen Island, BC.

We chose this location because it is nestled in the heart of the BC forest and has access to a little river. There’s plenty of space for us to get lost alone or together. The accommodations are a mix of cabin style & yurt style spaces. Most are shared accommodations with limited solo options available on a first register, first serve basis.

[Attendees are responsible for their transportation to the event centre. If you are flying into Vancouver you will need to take a bus or car to the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal (cost is $40 roundtrip with no vehicle and $80 roundtrip with a passenger vehicle) We recommend carpooling to make it easier for you!]

Food is important - so we are going to make sure to have access to delicious snacks and meals to leave you feeling satisfied. We want to have this be one less thing you need to worry about.
The whole week will be catered to minimize the amount of things you need to bring - we will work closely to provide you with comfort foods that nourish the soul.

We’ve created a guided, judgement free space for you to explore various forms of self expression to help rekindle and reconnect with your most authentic self. Everything is about celebrating and honouring your vulnerability in showing up.
