It's taken me a long time to be okay with this - 40 years to be exact - but here's the truth:
I'm going to disappoint you.
Whether that's what I post, what I don't post or how I post...how much I charge or don't charge...
And whether my body/thoughts/behaviors change.
Somewhere along the way - I'm going to disappoint you.
And while my intention certainly isn't to disappoint you,
I cannot help what expectations you put on me.
I try my best to communicate my most authentic self on my platforms however, the internet creates one-sided bonds (called parasocial relationships) with creators/people where we expect them to be/think/do like us.
And when they don't - we become disappointed in them.
Most of those expectations we put on others serve us in some way:
-they reinforce our stories/beliefs
-we feel less alone in what we think/say/do
-we feel like someone "gets us"
But I am not you and you are not me.
If you want someone to post, charge or exist the way you expect - YOU do it. That's all you can control.
So, if I, or any other creator disappoints you, I want you to ask:
"What expectations did I put on them and what does/did that serve in me?"
