August Challenge: Week 2
Welcome to Week 2 of the Urge to Purge Challenge, my cutie! I am so happy that you are here and still going strong on clearing the way for all the glorious new energy to come in. Have you noticed a change in mood since last week’s challenges? Well, we are just getting started! Don’t forget, you can also feel free to use the comment section to ask questions or share how this work is helping you!
Week 2 is focused on purging our clothes! Yes, chances are high that if you follow me you also tend to hang onto your clothes while simultaneously buying more. This week is going to come with a lot of feels so clothing is going to be the entire focus and we are going to have a lot of questions for you to ponder as you go through your wardrobe. When I was selling the things from the studio wardrobe, I realized I was clinging to more things than I actually needed and so I had to get curious why that was and wouldn’t ya know it, my good friend Scarcity showed up in all her realness! This is also a tough week because it usually gets worse before it gets better (as I sit in the middle of a pile of clothes on my floor trying to make smaller piles of organization) - but we can do it! And you will feel better for it because it will help you start dressing in a way that brings you joy and fulfillment.
Challenge 1: The technical bits
My personal preference for going through my clothes is to literally dump everything into the middle of the room because I need to shock myself into seeing just how much I have accumulated. If you have ADD or ADHD and your clothes go into drawers/closets to die, you probaly also have no idea just how much clothes you actually have, because you’ve just been wearing the same clothes that end up on the chair/treadmill/bed in your room. So, start first by making a mountain in the middle of the room.
From there, you will have 3 piles: KEEP, GIVEAWAY, THROW AWAY
Rules for Giveaway/Throw Away:
*If you haven’t worn it in the last 6 months and it isn’t a seasonal item (ie. ski pants)
*If it no longer fits you (yes, even if it’s a little snug)
*If you wouldn’t buy it NOW
*If you bought it with plans to “create” something with it, but haven’t in the last 3 months
I am not fancy like Marie Kondo - I don’t really bless and release my wardrobe, I jam as much into a garbage bag as I can before I trek it over to the donation bin or toss it in the trash.
That’s it for the technical stuff - it really isn’t that fantastical, but it gets the job done. If you feel really overwhelmed by the pile, get a trusted friend to come help - things are so much more fun with friends!
Challenge 2: The Curiosity Bits
As you go through your wardrobe, I want to encourage you to adopt a spirit of curiosity. Use the list of the following questions to work through some of the attachment you have to different wardrobe pieces:
