The Unraveled Retreat - Utah 2022

When the folks at the Unraveled Academy asked me to teach at their retreat in Utah, I was over the moon excited. I have been doing online content for them for a few years and this would be my first time meeting with them in person and I was nervous/jazzed about the opportunity. Ryan and I drove from Winnipeg to Utah and spent a glorious 5 days up in the mountains at Welton Woods where I got to know the incredible heartful gang that is responsible for the beauty that is the Unraveled Academy as well as the attendees that make it that much more special. As someone who specializes in boudoir/intimate portraits it was an awesome experience to learn from educators who shoot things differently than I: from families to couples to seniors to fashion I enjoyed learning, creating and experimenting. My favorite thing, however, was doing behind the scenes during the event. It really helped me hone in on my storytelling skills and I tried to tap into my inner Kevin Lowery (my buddy who now works on presidential campaigns, nbd) looking for cool angles, composition, and story. As a boudoir photographer that had a specific studio for the last 7 years, I feel that I have gotten used to storytelling in a specific way instead of a documentary way - this was a great opportunity to work on those skills. Oh! Also, I asked my class where they wanted to see me do my self portraits and just jokingly Ace Fanning said “A 15 PERSON VAN!” and if you know me, I took that challenge and slaaaaayed. It’s this kinda fun shit you can expect from The UA crowd.
