What I Wore in January
Is this going to turn into a fashion blog? Maybe - at least a few times a month/year. The reason for that is that I have fallen in love with fashion and styling and as a plus size gal, I think it’s important to showcase representation. I am stepping out of my clothing comfort zone more and more and I want to take you with me! I document my outfits almost daily because I LOVE them so much and just 4 years ago? I was wearing black tights and tank tops or tshirts. Now, you would be hard-pressed to find black clothing in my closet (though who knows! Maybe that will be the new challenge for me!) So, welcome to this series What I Wore In… where I will share my outfits, challenges, and likes/dislikes every month!
THE LOVES
Alright, listen, these ultra wide leg embroidered high waisted jeans from Torrid stole the show this month - while I only wore them about 4-5 times over the month since getting them, I took most of my photos when I wore them because I feel super confident when I wear them! I was so hesitant to buy them because I carry a lot of weight in my lower tum and the way jeans look online is NEVER how they look in person - I was prepared to be disappointed, but I took the leap and now I have 2 pairs of THEE best jeans I’ve ever owned! (I have 2 because I ordered a Tall & a Regular to see which I like more and I liked them both equally, so I kept them). For reference I am wearing a size 22 Tall in this image, the other pair I have is a 24 Regular - a bit baggier, but still cute af.
The second style that stole my heart this month was a long chiffon skirt. I have one that I thrifted and tore the lining out of because it was a pain in the ass - now I just layer the chiffon over my satin skirts. The second one (the one with the blue flowers) is from…surprise…Torrid. I really like the style of a longer bottom with a cropped top, so my cropped sweater from Target made for a good look and a tucked in sweater in the yellow allowed it to look cropped as well. The downside to these skirts is the immense amount of static during this season and living in Alberta, but a lot of lotion on the legs helped! The belts in both are from Torrid - one from a few years ago, the other (the heart chain) is recent!
THE CHALLENGERS
The outfit that challenged me the most was this denim dress that I found at Plato’s Closet. It is a 3X but it was a bit larger than I thought and I tried to style it in a handful of ways. I used my favorite belt from Torrid and rolled up the sleeves, but my bike shorts kept peeking out the bottom and I was tugging at it all day. I’ve since taken it in on the sides and drew all over it with fashion markers! Hopefully, it will make an appearance in February! Overall, I keep trying to be a denim dress gal, but it misses the mark in regards to comfort for me and the confidence wanes when the comfort is low.
This outfit also challenged me, but only because I was wearing a thrifted blouse tucked into jeans - WHAT? In your whole time of knowing me have you ever seen me wear a BLOUSE? TUCKED INTO JEANS??? But, this outfit made me feel really put together and I loved the vibe. The coat I was wearing, it’s a 3x houndstooth number that I got at Target about 4-5 years ago. It’s light, comfy, and professional. This outfit challenged me mostly because it required me to step into a new evolution for myself and while uncomfortable, whenever I saw myself in the mirror I smiled at myself!
Lastly, this outfit was a personal challenge where I decided to try a little mis-matched print dressing! I thrifted this Pennington’s blazer a few weeks ago along with this Old Navy pin stripe skirt and I realized their blues were VERY similar, so a perfect way to match the prints. I watched a reel where someone said you want 60% main color, 30% secondary color, and 10% accent color. For me that’s, white, periwinkley blue, and the brown/gold. I felt better in this outfit than I thought I would tbh, mostly because I’m not usually a print wearer to begin with, never mind a mis-matched print! It was really fun to put together!
THE CUTE & COMFIES
The cutest outfit award goes to this thrifted pleated skirt and thrifted sweater with sheep on it! I’ve been wanting to wear this sweater for so long, but the colors are a bit muted compared to the other items I have, so when I found this burnt redish tone skirt, I thought it was a good fit!
Finally, these two outfits hit the mark in terms of comfort, confidence, and cuteness! The green dress is from Torrid and the soft cardigan was thrifted. The outfit on the right was all thrifted, though the skirt is also a past Torrid item! With the chilly weather, these cardigans and sweaters were Godsends because their softness was so cozy and warm, while the colors and flowy bits made me dream of spring and summer!
