August Challenge: The Urge to Purge
Welcome + Prep Week!
Hello, cutie patootie and welcome to the August Challenge! The official challenge will begin August 1st and every week you will receive an email leading you back to here for the next steps + guidance. This segment is to introduce you to the challenge, it’s goals and prepare you for any items you might need before you get started!
First up! The Prep List!
These are just suggestions for you to gather before we get started for the month - but ultimately you can add or remove items as you see fit. Personally, I am less of a “cleaner” and more of an “arranger” but I understand some people love the smell of cleaning supplies and a spotless baseboard - you do you!
When I talk about the reward system, it’s important that we reward ourselves for doing the hard thing - but it doesn’t have to be big and it doesn’t have to be a purchase. For me, when I accomplish my challenge, then I can have my cup of coffee. That’s it. Is there anyone saying I can’t have it before - no - but I know and that’s all that matters!
Your clarity statement and values are next!!
Clarity Statement + Values
I am removing things that no longer serve me. I can thank them for what they’ve done for me up until this point, but then I will let them go so that newness can flow in. I am doing this because I desire to live a life of EASE & COMFORT. When things are cluttered, I can’t focus and I lose things. I can still maintain a little bit of clutter while also ensuring the aspects of my life I want to prosper will be easy: my workspace, bookshelf, and office. I also need to set boundaries with individuals in my life who nay-say my dreams and desires. I also need to look at the content I am consuming and see what impact it might be having on my desired goals.
I am striving to live a life of:
Freedom
Ease
Creativity
Authenticity
And this can be made easier by letting go of the things, people, and experiences that don’t serve this outcome.
In order to head into this challenge with INTENTION, we need to be clear on why we are doing the things we want to do. Use your journal to craft your own Clarity statement and feel free to use the mad libs version below to get started:
I am removing things that no longer serve me. I can thank them for _____________________________, but I need to release them because __________________________________________. I desire to live a life of ______________________________________ and when my life is cluttered, I can’t _________________________________ and __________________________________________________. The areas that I will focus on the clear the clutter will be: _______________________________________________________________________________________. I will set boundaries with ____________________________________________________ because they __________________________________________. I also need to look at the content I am consuming and see what it impact it might be having on my desired goals.
Once you’ve written your Clarity statement, then it’s time to figure out what values are important to you at this time of your life (we will probably do this with every challenge). Pop over to this blog post here and narrow it down to your top 3-5 Values! Once you’ve done that, write them somewhere where you will see them! Understanding your values will allow you to be able to ask yourself questions: Does watching this show improve my: freedom/ease/creativity/authenticity ? If the answer is NO - then it should probably go in the Purge pile. If it’s a YES - then keep watching it!
Perfect! Well, that is all to get started! Come back next Monday for your 1st Weekly Challenge for the Urge to Purge Challenge!
