Alaskan Adventures - Part 1/4

On May 29, 2022 my husband and I, along with his sister and her girlfriend departed Vancouver, BC on the Royal Caribbean cruise to Alaska! We boarded the Serenade of the Seas and set off on our way along the Pacific coast to the North where we would be surprised by Ryan’s mom and dad being on the cruise as well - they hid it for over three months and we had no idea - needless to say, we were really happy that they decided to join us on this chilly adventure!

Our first port found us in Ketchikan, Alaska where I avoided doing any sort of excursion and instead, went off adventuring on my own to take some self portraits in the beautiful Alaskan landscape. I managed to find beautiful, lush flowering bushes (did you know Alaska is a rainforest?), glorious clear streams with jumping fish, and fantastic trees with the most beautiful moss I’d ever seen. Being in the forest and along a creek bed reminds me of my time growing up in Bowsman, Manitoba - I used to spend hours looking for rocks, treasures, and fairies and whenever I get the chance to reconnect with that version of myself I jump at it!

With this being our first port, I took it relatively easy and just enjoyed spending time with myself. I captured as many images of the things that lit me up inside as I could - I realize photography is my way of wanting to cement memories of sights, sounds, smells, and experiences into my mind.

Check back tomorrow for part 2 where we will continue on our Alaskan Adventure - through the Tracey Arm Fjord and, surprisingly, through my grief.
